Trump's Healthcare Plan

Donald Trump, who may be the Republican candidate that wins the primaries and runs against Hillary Clinton for the presidency this fall has recently released  his health care reform plan.

Donald Trump's health care plan is thus far the best healthcare plan proposed by any candidate. There are seven parts to his plan and to date this has been the best blueprint for healthcare in America. The other candidates have good plans but not as comprehensive as Mr.Trumps. There is a need for other items to be added on in the future but as a foundation, this is an excellent plan.

Mr. Trump's proposal  has seven of the 10 most important elements that I have mentioned previously in the book 'Obamacare' written in 2010.

One – He intends to repeal Obamacare and the individual mandate, which was completely unconstitutional.

Two – He wants to allow health insurance to be sold across state lines in order to increase competition in the market which will lower insurance costs.

Three - He wants to allow insurance premiums for health care to be completely tax-deductible. This would result in the government not being the middleman and wrongfully taking and controlling a portion of our money.

Four – He wants to allow individuals to have health savings accounts that are tax-free(tax-deductible) and are part of any of the individuals estate which can be passed on without any death penalty or taxes. This will allow the individual to have more flexibility and control over how his/her healthcare dollars are spent. It will give an incentive for people to learn about the cost of various procedures and with that knowledge, the prices of healthcare services will decrease and become more competitive. Also, costs will be between the consumer and the provider and thus insurance will become much cheaper for routine care doctor visits, labs and x-rays, etc.
A new market can be created which insures individuals and families for catastrophic care which will be very cheap and probably the choice for most young healthy individuals. A consumer would obtain an insurance policy for events that cause them to be hospitalized. It would truly be an insurance policy similar to car insurance and home insurance.

Five – He would require transparency of prices for all services provided in healthcare including doctors, hospitals and clinics. He did not mention that transparency should also be involving insurance company fees for procedures and pharmaceutical drug costs. This would allow more informed and better choices by individuals and encourage a free market system which will be competitive and lower cost.

Six – He would allow the states to receive block grants for Medicaid reimbursement. The federal government would no longer be in control of taking care of  healthcare for the poor and it would be the responsibility of each individual state which can better manage the healthcare dollars allotted for the poor. This will decrease the amount of federal waste, fraud and abuse and will allow the states to determine how to take care of its poor population. This will decrease one of the biggest increases in healthcare costs recently (Medicaid portion of healthcare) for each individual state.

Seven- He would allow drugs to be imported from other countries and utilized by our citizens. This will decrease the cost of medications and make them more affordable and available to all citizens. He did not  mention that in return, the federal government needs to decrease much of the regulations inhibiting development of drugs so as the pharmaceuticals companies can develop new drugs more  efficiently and with less government bureaucracy and hurdles.

These provisions are a good start to helping reverse the negative effects of Obamacare. There is a need to include other provisions such as pre-existing conditions, malpractice reform and a cap on the cost of catastrophic care. There are many other items that need to be addressed as well, but as I stated previously, this is a good beginning.

So I hope, for the benefit of all Americans, that this plan be the initial blueprint to repealing and replacing Obamacare. In this way the American citizens win and the Bureaucracy of Big Government loses.
